Gallery RD

The graphic artist and painter Riko Debenjak (1908-1987) was a native of Kanal. He was one of the leading representatives of Slovenian experimental graphic art, the Ljubljana School of Graphic Art, and one of the best Yugoslav artists in the field of colour graphic art, also recognised internationally.

The gallery in the tower of the medieval walls in Kanal, which opened in 1977, is dedicated to Debenjak. Today, it hosts various exhibitions of paintings, sculptures, prints and other art works, and a small part of the gallery is dedicated to the presentation and preservation of Debenjak's legacy. Riko Debenjak donated a collection of prints to the town, which is exhibited in the gallery during the summer months, while exhibitions of works by various artists are held throughout the year. A bust of Debenjak stands in front of the gallery.
The Riko Debenjak Gallery is located in the Kontrada Square in Kanal, Pionirska ulica 8, Kanal.
