Juliana Trail - stage 18

Difficulty

The 18th stage of the Juliana trail runs along the Kolovrat ridge and offers a wonderful panoramic view of the Julian Alps, the Soča valley, Veneto and the Friuli plain all the way to the Adriatic Sea. The exceptionally scenic, medium-demanding path is part of the Path of Peace from the Alps to the Adriatic and part of the route of the connecting Path of the Three Sanctuaries.

The Kolovrata Ridge, which represents a natural barrier between the Friuli Plain and the Soča Valley, was used by military units during the Soča Front. Along the way, we can observe many remains from this period, including road infrastructure, caverns, water troughs and reservoirs. Particularly interesting are the fortified Italian positions at Globočak, where there is also a memorial. The route takes us past the interesting ethnological collection in Lukčeva house in Kambreško, where we can see the kitchen with a stone hearth, which is an ethnological monument of local importance. We continue the journey to the pilgrimage church of Marijino Celje nad Ligom, and from here to the church of St. Gendrce under Korada and the top of Korada, which is the highest point of the stage, from which the Italian King Vittorio Emanuele III and his generals observed the events on the front. From here, our view will see the Julian Alps, the Soča valley, Veneto and the Friuli plain all the way to the Adriatic Sea.

We start the tour at the mountain lodge Pod Ježo and follow the marked path to the villages of Pušno and Srednje, from where we climb to Globočak, from here we continue our way to Kambreško and past the villages of Humarji, Gorenje Nekovo and Lig to Korada. Just before the finish line, we can have refreshments with local dishes in the "Na skednju" snack bar in Vrtače, or stop at the Korada shelter at the end of the stage.
